“The Way of the Cross in Our Lives”
Lent Study on Contemporary Mystics: Thomas Merton, Dag Hammarskjöld and Etty Hillesum.

These three mystics have one thing in common, they were (journal)writers who shared their inner journey with us, readers. Their reflective practice helped them in the paradoxical spiritual growth of losing oneself, in order to become a Self: The Way of the Cross.

Thomas Merton (1915 Prades, France - 1968, Bangkok, Thailand), was (a converted) Catholic. A monk, prolific writer and artist. Dag Hammarskjöld (1905 Jonkoping, Sweden - Rhodesia), was a Protestant. Had studied Law and Economics and became the first Secretary General of the United Nations. Etty Hillesum (1914 Middelburg, The Netherlands - 1943, Auschwitz), was a young passionate Jewish woman who lived for literature. Living her young adult life in Amsterdam during WWII she took up the fate of her people.

Sylvia Grevel will be leading three reflective sessions. Chris Wortham will be sharing his poetic insight into the journeys of the mystics. The aim is to be inspired, and grow deeper into our personal spiritual journey.

Saturday morning 28/3, 4/4 & 11/4.10-12 AM in St Paul’s Church hall, Beaconsfield.
